2021 Giant Revolt Advanced 0 Carbon Gravel Bike in Green Information

Season : 2021

Brand : Giant

Code : 2112008BalsamGRN

Get ready to crush some gravel. With its lightweight, endurance-friendly composite frame, generous tire clearance and smooth ride quality, Revolt Advanced lets you ride farther and faster on rough roads, gravel or dirt.

Designed with purpose-built geometry for gravel riding, plus engineered compliance in a lightweight composite frame, the Revolt Advanced is the perfect way to push new limits of speed on variable terrain.

A composite fork eats up bumps, and the D-Fuse seatpost and Contact XR D-Fuse handlebar absorb shocks and vibrations. The frame is integrated for disc brakes and has clearance for high-volume tires up to 45mm so you can float through the rough stuff.

Details including the X-Defender downtube protector and smart mount system for racks and accessories give you a head start on any gravel riding mission.

  • Frame is designed with endurance positioning and shorter chainstays for precise handling, agility and control. The result is confident speed in all situations, from out-of-the-saddle climbs to rugged dirt descents.
  • Innovative Contact XR D-Fuse handlebar and D-Fuse seatpost work as a system to help absorb shock without sacrificing the stiffness needed for aggressive road performance. Added frame clearance for high-volume tires up to 45mm helps smooth out rough roads, gravel and dirt.
  • The Advanced composite frame maximizes pedaling power, giving Revolt Advanced a smooth, fast ride quality on variable riding surfaces.

Gravel Bike Buyers Guide

Gravel bikes are a fairly new category of bike that have evolved from endurance and cyclo touring end of road biking with elements of bike packing and off roading thrown into the mix. Gravel bikes are aimed at the rider who wants one bike to 'do it all' as they're capable of hanging with your road biking mates on a group ride or taking a cross country route with mountain bikers.

As Gravel bikes have evolved over that last few years what are the key features to look for when choosing a Gravel bike?
  • Geometry - the head angle on a Gravel bike is generally more relaxed or 'slacker' than an out and out cyclocross bike although both types of bikes can share drivetrain and tyre clearance similarities. The geometry tends to be more relaxed that a road bike too.
  • Tyre clearance - expect to see lots of tyre clearance. Gravel bikes tend to come with a treaded tyre and one that is significantly wider than those fitted to a road bike. Expect 42-45mm widths as standard with room for more. Tyres will run at lower pressure than road bikes.
  • Drivetrain - Gravel bikes will have a mixture of 1 x and 2 x drivetrains depending on the model. Gearing is often lower than a road bike with a wide range cassette fitted to improve performance off road.
  • Disc brakes - one thing you won't see on a Gravel bike is caliper brakes. Braking performance is very important, not only off road but also if carrying luggage on a bike packing expedition.
  • Luggage points - As an absolute minimum Gravel bikes will be fitted with rack mounts, but don't be surprised to find mounting points for fork bags and additional frame storage too.
Giant and Liv both have Gravel specific bikes within their ranges. Giant have the Revolt and new for 2021 we also have the Liv Devote. Both bikes are available with aluminum or carbon framesets. Depending on the model chosen expect to see tubeless wheel and tyre systems, flared D-Fuse handlebars and seatposts for added ride comfort, hydraulic brakes and gravel specific Shimano GRX groupsets.

Are there any downsides to choosing a Gravel Bike?

As mentioned above some of the features that make Gravel bikes so versatile can work against them in certain scenarios. Treaded tyres have more rolling resistance than the slicker treads fitted to road bikes and combined with a lower gearing can mean that you will need to work harder to keep up with someone on a road bike.
Within our Giant and Liv ranges we do have the Contend and Avail AR ranges that have more tyre clearance than the standard versions of the same bike and are also capable of carrying luggage. These two models have aluminum frames while the Giant Defy and Liv Avail have clearance for up to 35mm tyres as standard. These bikes could be more efficient if more of your riding is on tarmac.

Don't forget there's also the new for 2021 Giant TCX if you're looking a cyclocross specific bike to race through winter!
